Stainless steel mortar has a welded fixture to hold a 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tube.

This permits cold grinding of small amounts of tissue right in the tube resulting in reduced sample loss and collection time

Tube contents are frozen by the liquid nitrogen that surrounds the mortar. This prevents the tube from cracking by eliminating direct contact with liquid nitrogen. A 12.7 cm (5”) long stainless steel pestle with 1.9 dia. x 10.2 cmW (¾ x 4”) polyethylene handle (included) can be used to pulverize the tissue. Suction feet keep the unit stable on the workbench.

The mortar is suspended above a stainless steel cavity which holds the liquid nitrogen and is nested in a heavily insulated blue polyethylene housing.
