Caron’s Gelf products use the combination of gel thermal active insulation technology (patent pending) and copper’s antimicrobial properties to enhance your everyday cell culture applications.
Gel active insulation: Caron’s thermal gel is phase change material that is specially formulated to change from a solid to a liquid state, or “melt,” at 37 °C. How it works: as heat is introduced to the gel, such as inside an incubator, the gel actively stores heat. When introduced to lower temperatures, such as outside of the incubator, the gel slowly begins to change back from a liquid to a solid state, thus slowly releasing its stored heat. This technology will revolutionize your conventional CO2 incubator, feeding and harvesting and cell transportation. Our gel insulation absorbs, stores and releases the perfect amount of heat required for cell growth conditions. Additionally, cells are protected with antimicrobial copper; Gelf products are comprised of 100% pure copper. Copper is proven effective against contamination. The natural antimicrobial capabilities will eliminate microbial contamination at all times.
Portability: Cells face the threat of temperature loss during routine feeding and harvesting procedures. Our portable Gelf Pod is lightweight and facilitates laboratory transportation, such as to and from a BioSafety Cabinet (BSC), by reducing temperature loss during times outside of the incubator. The Pod is also designed to increase incubator temperature stability.
Productivity: Feeding and harvesting is time consuming and demands the removal of cell cultures from the safety of a CO2 incubator. Many laboratory procedures require that a maximum of two or three cell culture vessels be removed for feeding and harvesting at a time. This is to minimize the risk of contamination, temperature loss and CO2 loss. The Gelf Pod Incubator is a temporary storage solution for high volume cell culture laboratories or facilities that are concerned for their extremely temperature sensitive cell lines. This product easily fits inside your BSC, includes one Gelf Pod, provides constant temperature and can be setup to supply CO2. Transport an entire row of stacked cell culture vessels from your laboratory incubator to the Gelf Pod Incubator, typically increasing batch size six-fold and maximizing productivity.
Protection: Your standard laboratory CO2 incubator is supposed to be the safest growing environment for your cells. Unfortunately, extreme events, such as power failures, and even everyday events, such as frequent door openings, disrupt your cell cultures from growing at optimum conditions. The copper Gelf Shelf is a stationary proactive solution that will fit into many popular 6 to 6.5 cu. ft. incubators. For other incubators: fill your incubator shelves with Gelf Pods for the same thermal and antimicrobial protection. By incorporating an entire Gelf Shelf system in an incubator, you add an extra layer of protection to any typical air jacket or water jacket incubator. When four standard shelves are fully replaced with the Gelf Shelf, temperature recovery after a one-minute door opening is twice as fast! Even a single Gelf Shelf or Gelf Pod adds additional thermal and antimicrobial protection for your precious cells.
Cell culture products available today provide a variety of contamination control approaches, but little attention to the importance of maintaining temperature control of cells at all times, whether inside or outside of the incubator.
