ASHRAE Testing and Certification For Fume Hoods

ASHRAE 110-1995 testing evaluates the fume hoods containment and exhaust characteristics in accordance with the standards set forth by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

ASHRAE 110-1995 is a three part test: Smoke Generation Test, Face Velocity Profile Test, and Tracer Gas Test.              

Face Velocity Profile Test: Measures the speed of the air movement within a Fume Hood. An average reading is calculated from measurements taken from multiple points within the Fume Hood.              

Smoke Generation Test: Visual test which uses various smoke-generating substances to verify the Fume Hood’s containment properties.              

Tracer Gas Test: Tracer gas (usually Sulfur Hexafluoride) is injected into the Fume Hood while a mannequin is placed outside the fume hood to simulate an operator. The face of the mannequin is fitted with a tracer gas detector which will take readings for a duration of five minutes. Final readings are compared to specified acceptance criteria.

Test and Certification For Biosafety Cabinet

Biosafety cabinets are tested and certified to meet the recommendations under NSF standard 49. Test and certification of Biosafety Cabinets includes inflow velocity measurements, down flow velocity measurements, HEPA filter testing, Fluorescent/ UV light testing, and airflow pattern testing.

Validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)

Our validation services ensure compliance with FDA, GMP/GLP, US Pharmacopoeia, and ISO standards.

  • Installation Qualification (IQ): Verifies that the unit is properly installed and confirms that all necessary documents and parts as specified per the manufacturer are included
  • Operation Qualification (OQ): Operational test designed to test product functionality as designed by the manufacturer. The OQ includes airflow analysis and HEPA filter integrity testing.
  • Performance Qualification (PQ): Challenge testing designed to provide assurance that the product will operate as designed during intended use. The PQ includes smoke testing to determine correct air flow pattern, noise level measurements, and particle counts.
